Campus Architect

Salary:

The beginning salary will be commensurate with experience and education.

Description:

California State University, East Bay, is located in the East Bay Hills overlooking San Francisco Bay with an enrollment of 13,000 students. The campus is planning for an aggressive program to modernize its building infrastructure to accommodate a significant increase in enrollment. Reporting to the Director of Planning, Design & Construction, the Campus Architect is responsible for developing proposed capital improvement projects, managing a variety of minor and major capital improvement projects, and assisting with the development of a building permit system and code inspection process for the campus. 

Qualifications:  

At least 10 years of related professional experience.  Professional license or eligibility for a license in architecture or engineering preferred.  Advanced experience in the development of project scope, cost, schedule and budget.  Advanced knowledge of construction management, state bidding and contracting policies and laws, construction claims resolution, mediation, arbitration, and auditing practices.  Ability to manage multiple, large projects of up to $50 million.  Experience managing Construction Manager at Risk (CM@Risk) and Design/Build projects preferred.  Experience supervising in-house design professional staff.  Ability to understand and, if necessary prepare, technical specifications and architectural/engineering and construction documents for capital improvement projects.  Professional knowledge of contract negotiations, code, rules, and regulations as applied to the construction and operation of campus facilities.  Demonstrated ability to work independently and oversee the performance of a wide range of complex administrative and technical assignments.  Thorough knowledge of modern management and administrative techniques related to the development and implementation of appropriate fiscal controls, personnel, and appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling and coordination.  Exceptional interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and multiculturalism.  Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, addressing the varied levels of understanding of the processes and requirements, to achieve understanding and consensus. 

Education:

Graduation from a four-year college or university, with an advanced degree preferred, in engineering, architecture, planning or a related field.
