Description:
The
Senior Review Architect operates within the Office of the University
Building Official/University Review Unit, with a primary duty of evaluating
the plans and specifications for Capital Outlay and Non-Capital Outlay
projects prepared by other architects and engineers.
Additional duties of the Senior Review Architect include: performing reviews
to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ADA Standards; participating
in pre-design, design, and review meetings with the Architect/Engineer,
University Project Manager to resolve design and production issues; advising
University Construction Administration Managers in site inspections and
final acceptance inspections; and participating in interdisciplinary value
management (engineering) of projects of $5M+ in schematic and preliminary
design stages, including energy management and LEED certification.
This position is also responsible for: resolving highly complex
architectural and engineering questions and problems; and conducting
inspections for code and ADA compliance. |

Qualifications:
- A minimum of a
four-year degree from an accredited College or University in Architecture
is required. A Master's degree in Architecture is preferred;
- Considerable (5-7
years) experience in professional practice is required; 7-10 years of
experience is preferred;
- Required to serve as
Agency 207, 209, 246 and 948 resource for architectural/engineering design
and program matters;
- Thorough knowledge of
principles, practices and procedures of architecture, and related
engineering; ability to apply these to difficult and/or unique academic
and healthcare projects required;
- Ability to develop
and/or review requests for code or design exceptions required;
- Knowledge of and
familiarity with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC), ADA
Standards required;
- Professional
Registration as an Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required,
or must be achieved within 6 months of employment. Certification by the
Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Housing and Community Development
required by VUSBC Section 105.2.2, or must be achieved within 18 months of
employment.
